These annual slumber parties, which are designed to encourage community members to get creative in their support for their local shelters, offer unique opportunities to get involved, such as spending the night at the shelter.

“Currently, 91% of individuals with IDD are unemployed. That’s unacceptable, and we can do better,” Reichert said. The PAWS program was created to address this disparity, providing both skills training and professional certifications.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said she issued a complaint to animal control about continuous animal noises. “They would cry and cry and cry,” she said. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man is charged with 16 counts of aggravated animal cruelty. The complaint shows the dogs had no potable water, little food, cages filled with feces and urine, and were emaciated. The dogs are now being cared for at ACPS, which is trying to get sole legal custody of the animals. According to an arrest report, the case against Mercer began on Sept. 24, when a neighbor reported an awful smell coming from Mercer’s home, along with the sound of barking dogs. An animal control officer went to the home and found 16 canines, most of which were hound dogs, that were used for hunting, according to Mercer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Nassau Humane Society in Fernandina Beach took in 20 small dogs Friday from Animal Care and Protective Services in Jacksonville. The dogs were surrendered to ACPS on Friday, and the shelter contacted Nassau County for help. All of the animals will need vaccinations and some will need spay-neuter surgeries, which NHS will pay for.
