Sophia Vitello started her news career at ABC7 Sarasota as a Reporter/MMJ back in 2023. She prides herself on representing the voiceless, the overlooked, and the underloved, after growing up in a home riddled with drugs. During her time in Sarasota, Sophia’s reporting helped an elderly community have their power restored through government officials two weeks after devastating hurricanes and negligence from property management. She also connected hundreds of hurricane victims to donations, funding, and resources through live calls to action. After Hurricane Debby, Sophia also highlighted Sarasota County’s faults in the flooding of one 85-home neighborhood, shedding light on a maintenance issue that went unnoticed for years. Sophia graduated from the University of Miami with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Creative Writing. Sophia is engaged to a BM2 in the Coast Guard, stationed in Kings Bay, Ga. At WJXT, she reports on all things military and Nassau County! In her free time, Sophia loves to read the Bible and lay in the sun.
