Jaguars get much-needed help at receiver, trade for Jakobi Meyers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars are bolstering their receiver room in a big way, making a deal for Raiders pass catcher Jakobi Meyers at the deadline on Tuesday.

The team announced that it is sending fourth- and sixth-round picks to the Raiders for Meyers, one of the most sought-after wideouts at the trade deadline.

Jacksonville (5-3) desperately needed to do something at receiver. Dyami Brown and Brian Thomas Jr. both left Sunday’s game against Las Vegas injured. Rookie Travis Hunter went on injured reserve last week. And top tight end Brenton Strange has been on IR for three weeks.

In addition to those injures, Jacksonville just hasn’t seen good enough production from its pass catchers. It leads the league in drops.

Meyers (6-2, 193 pounds, 28 years old) has 33 catches for 352 yards this season. He’s coming off a season where he had 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. In his career with the Raiders and Patriots, Meyers has 4,944 yards and 20 touchdown catches. He immediately upgrades Jacksonville’s receiving corps.
