Florida-Georgia fans look forward to finished stadium construction, say they will miss annual fall trip to Jacksonville

Ongoing construction for Stadium of the Future means rivalry matchup will move to Atlanta and then Tampa before return to Jax in 2028

The annual Florida-Georgia rivalry game has one of the most unique traditions in college football: a neutral site location in Jacksonville that gives both teams an equal share of the stadium.

But the iconic half black and red/half orange and blue stadium divide won’t be seen in Jacksonville the next two years.

Ongoing construction for the Stadium of the Future at EverBank Stadium means the 2026 matchup will be played in Atlanta and the 2027 matchup will take place in Tampa.

Fans in the iconic RV City tailgating area told News4JAX they’re looking forward to the return to Jacksonville in 2028 -- both for the tradition and the much-anticipated stadium upgrades.

“It is a little sad to be honest (to move the game temporarily), but we are very thankful for the stadium and very thankful for the construction that is going to go on because it is bringing so much more to it,” said diehard Gators fan Brandon Ayers, who has managed to grab a spot in RV City since 2016. “When we are packing up on Sunday, I think that it will hit more than anything because some of these folks, we don’t get to see often. This is kind of like a family reunion a lot of times.”

The sentiment is shared by Georgia Bulldogs fans.

One family who snagged a spot in RV City for the first time this year told News4JAX they know the look will be different in three years, but it will be worth it.

“You won’t be looking out to the St. Johns River,” Jerry Searcy said, “but I think it’s going to be so great and a great stadium.”
