Veteran moves back into St. Augustine home after getting help from local groups who made it livable again

Kitchen fire, termites, failed pipes forced disabled Marine Sgt. Roy Wilbur out of his home

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Sgt. Roy Wilbur is excited to sleep in his own bed and cook in his new kitchen.

It has been a difficult year and a half for the disabled Marine.

Twice injured in combat, he was already struggling to stay in his St. Augustine home when his pipes failed. He spent several months living with no running water in the house. Then, his stove caught fire, forcing him to move out.

That’s when the veteran asked for help, and Operation Lifeline was there to listen.

Thanks to partnerships with St. Johns County, Builders Care and Hometown Hero’s Ride, Sgt. Wilbur received the keys to his newly renovated home.
