GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – When 12-year-old Greyson Pacifico started coming home with headaches in 2021, the pain was so bad and consistent that his family took him to the hospital.
“We walk into the door one way, and we left to a completely different world,” Tari Pacifico, Greyson’s mom, said.
Greyson was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called Embryonal Brain Cancer.
With the help of GoFundMe supporters, Greyson bought a French Bulldog named Chip within a month of diagnosis.
Through hospital stays and the darkest moments of treatment, Greyson’s loyal companion was there along the way.
“I really couldn’t have done it without him,” Greyson said. “He was there for me all the time.”
Now in remission, Greyson and his family are bringing that same comfort to other children battling cancer.
“During his in-patient chemo treatments, he would get so depressed and in such a dark place,” Tari Pacifico said. “We would discuss him on the other side, giving Frenchies and donating Frenchies and visiting them once he was better. So being there was what we had envisioned over and over for that entire year.”
That vision became Grey’s Superhero Foundation, which has successfully placed two trained French Bulldogs with pediatric cancer patients since 2024.
“I was thinking about other people who didn’t have a dog that they could go through this journey with,” Greyson said. “And I thought, ‘What can we do to help that?’ So that’s where the business really came in, and that’s where we decided to give other people Frenchies and donate them.”
One of the donations went to Joey Walton, a young boy diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, which resulted in the loss of one of his eyes.
But Joey and his new dog, Tiny, have that in common.
“It was just a really great thing,” Joey’s mom, Araya, said. “Something for him to be able to relate to.”
The other donation, Chunk, entered Zoee Foster’s life in March 2024, but is now facing health challenges of his own. Chunk recently underwent surgery at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital.
Grey’s Superhero Foundation is reaching out to the community for assistance in covering Chunk’s medical costs, which they said will help ensure he can continue supporting Zoee through her final stages of cancer treatment.
The foundation has established a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Chunk’s medical expenses.
