JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day. It’s a day to unite people worldwide to raise awareness about HIV, show support for those living with HIV, and remember those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
Approximately 42 million people have died from AIDS related illnesses, and the theme this year is: “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.”
Despite significant medical advancements, HIV continues to be a public health issue that requires ongoing efforts to achieve the goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. If that’s to be achieved, awareness must be raised. However, the fact is, there’s still a stigma.
Tom Steele, one of the coordinators for AIDS Day events in Jacksonville, joined News4JAX Anchor Bruce Hamilton on The Morning Show Monday to talk about the fight against HIV and events planned for “World Aids Day” in Northeast Florida.
