JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman is dead and three other people were injured in a shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO says officers were called to a home on Susie Street around 12:55 p.m. after several 911 callers reported multiple people had been shot.
When deputies arrived, JSO says they found three people with gunshot wounds. All three were taken by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue to local hospitals.
The victims were a 57-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man and a 69-year-old man, JSO said. The woman later died at the hospital.
Investigators say a fourth victim — a 31-year-old man — went to a separate hospital on his own with a gunshot wound.
JSO described the shooting as a fast-moving situation that unfolded quickly. Commander Jacob Vorpahl with JSO’s Major Case Section said investigators located people in the area who may have witnessed what happened.
“We don’t know who our victims are, who are suspects and exactly what the roles may play so it will take some time to work that out,” Vorpahl said during a briefing.
Vorpahl said investigators may need time to interview people who were present as they continue medical treatment.
JSO says that, at this point, it appears the shooting happened outside, but that could change as the scene is processed. Investigators also said they believe multiple guns were used, but they don’t yet know exactly how many.
Prior incidents in the area
Violence has been reported on Susie Street in the past. News4JAX reported in April on a shooting on Susie Street that left one person dead and another critically injured.
Vorpahl also said JSO has responded to a homicide investigation in the general area before, noting there was a homicide nearby in 2019, though he said he didn’t know if it was the exact same location.
“I would just say if you see something, say something,” Vorpahl said. “Because the sooner we can work it proactively, we’re not having to work reactively with a situation like this.”
