What you should know about aortic dissection

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham died as a result of an aortic dissection, according to a preliminary medical report.

An aortic dissection is a life-threatening medical emergency that occurs when the inner wall of the body’s main artery, the aorta, tears.

Blood then flows between the layers of the artery wall, which can reduce blood flow to vital organs.

Dr. Samer Garas, an interventional cardiologist at Ascension St. Vincent’s, joined us on The Morning Show to discuss the warning signs and possible interventions.
