GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two separate wildfires in Gainesville are forcing evacuations, according to the Florida Forest Service.
FFS officials said Sunday that one fire in northeast Gainesville has burned about 25 acres, primarily on the west side of N. Main St. between NE 53rd Ave. and NE 39th Ave.
N. Main St. and NE. 53rd Ave. are closed in the area.
The agency has not said how many structures are threatened or how many people are evacuating the area.
A second fire has burned at 24 acres off SR 121 north of U.S. 441 and is 60% contained. FFS says evacuations are underway in the Eryn’s Garden neighborhood.
That fire has run into an oak hammock and slowed down, according to officials Sunday evening.
