ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Two women were killed in a shooting Wednesday night in Orange Park, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, CCSO deputies responded to reports of a shooting on Hanging Moss Drive.
CCSO confirmed with News4JAX that two female victims died in the shooting and that the suspect is in custody.
According to jail records, the suspect was identified as 22-year-old Taylor Marques Lomax, a member of the U.S. Navy from Birmingham, Alabama.
A man who lives on that street, who did not want to be identified, told News4JAX he heard the gunshots.
“I heard eight to 10 shots. I was in my back bedroom. Me and my wife jumped up, ran to the front, but we could not see. my wife said to call 911, so I’ll called 911. The dispatcher said ‘Do not go out, stay inside and we will dispatch someone,’” he said.
Ashley Durham, who has lived in the neighborhood for about 15 years, said she was in her garage at the time and also heard gunshots.
“I was walking through the garage, and I heard popping noises. I am like ‘OK, I know they are not doing construction. It is not fireworks.’ I went back into the house and did not think anything of it. It is just too close to home. It is very scary because they are kids and we usually do not have crime in this neighborhood. I just feel sorry for the victims,” Durham said.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is still ongoing and more details will be released when they are available.
