JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man died and another was injured after a shooting Wednesday night at a Westside parking lot that has a long history of noise complaints, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to JSO, at approximately 8:10 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of the Paxon Shopping Center Plaza on Edgewood Avenue North after receiving reports of a shooting.
When police arrived, they found two men in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.
According to JSO, both men were transported to the hospital, where one of them died.
The other man was in stable condition, police said.
Police said “individuals” were transported to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed. But it is unclear if there have been any arrests.
News4JAX has recently reported on late-night noise complaints involving loud music during large gatherings inside the Paxon Shopping Center. Residents told News4JAX this problem has persisted for about two years, despite repeated complaints to JSO and city officials.
According to JSO 911 call logs from the beginning of the year through the week of Oct. 22, police have been dispatched to the parking lot 97 times. These calls include six late-night noise complaints, five calls for fights, and four calls related to armed disputes occurring overnight.
The circumstances that led to Wednesday’s shooting were still unknown, JSO said.
“We believe that this is an isolated incident and there is no additional threat to the community,” JSO said.
