JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An arrest was made in the Saturday night shooting that left one man dead and another person injured at a Westside Burger King.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Sunday night that 28-year-old Dawud Burritt was arrested in connection to the shooting that happened at a Burger King restaurant on Blanding Boulevard near Collins Road around 8:30 p.m.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting that killed 18-year-old Matthew Jackson and sent another man to the hospital. Police said he is expected to recover.
“We offer our condolences to Jackson’s loved ones and wish a speedy recovery for the other victim in this act of violence,” JSO said on social media.
Jackson’s mom described him on social media as a “good soul.”
Burritt was arrested Sunday morning, just one day after the shooting.
“Speediness is important, but I will also couch that with the idea behind making an arrest isn’t to make an arrest, it’s to get a conviction,” Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney said. “It’s to get a successful prosecution. Until either a plea comes through or a jury says guilty, the homicide investigator’s job isn’t done.”
The investigation is ongoing.
