JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An anonymous tip submitted through First Coast Crime Stoppers led directly to the arrest in Texas of a man wanted in the fatal shooting of a Jacksonville mother of two on Sunbeam Road, the organization said.

Jacksonville police announced Thursday that Randy Campbell, 31, was arrested in Dallas, Texas, in the deadly shooting of 24-year-old Cherrish Nunley, who was found dead on Nov. 15 in a parking lot outside of a Chuze Fitness on Sunbeam Road.

In their release, police said only that investigators “quickly identified” Campbell as the suspect.

On Friday, FCCS Executive Director Chase Robinson said the identification was aided by an anonymous tip to his organization.

“Today, we are reminded of the profound power our community holds when someone chooses to speak up—safely, securely, and without ever revealing their identity," Robinson said. “We are deeply grateful to the anonymous individual(s) who came forward. Their courage to share what they knew—protected by the fact of total anonymity—helped bring clarity to a case that has weighed heavily on a family, a neighborhood, and our entire community."

He called the arrest “a significant step toward justice” for Nunley, who leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.

Police said Campbell is accused of shooting Nunley on Nov. 15 in a Mandarin area parking lot. Nunley died at the scene before officers arrived, just weeks before what would have been her 25th birthday.

JSO said the case was quickly ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office, which led to detectives quickly identifying Campbell as the suspect in this case.

Police said they also worked alongside the State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshal Task Force to get a warrant for Campbell’s arrest.

“The US Marshal Task Force helped us track him to Dallas, Texas, where the Dallas Police Department arrested him earlier this week,” police said. “Our hearts go out to Nunley’s family and friends; we’ll work with the State Attorney’s Office to make sure justice is served.”

Campbell will be extradited to Jacksonville once the legal process is completed.

It’s currently unclear what relationship, if any, Nunley and Campbell had.

Police mentioned that Nunley’s homicide was one of the incidents that sparked social media rumors of a serial killer in Jacksonville, and used Campbell’s arrest as an opportunity to further quash those claims.

“Campbell is not a suspect in the other recent homicides in our community,” police said. “Our detectives continue to aggressively investigate the other homicides to bring justice to the victims’ families.”
