ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 22-year-old man was arrested after he took St. Johns County deputies on a high-speed chase following an attempted traffic stop.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said the pursuit that happened on Nov. 12 began when deputies tried to pull over Eric Williams-Scott for speeding in a construction zone on State Road 16 near Whisper Ridge Drive.

Instead of pulling over, Williams-Scott took off, driving recklessly for miles and weaving in and out of oncoming traffic lanes.
Deputies said he reached speeds of about 120 mph in a 45 mph zone.
They eventually caught up with him and performed a PIT maneuver to stop his vehicle.
Williams-Scott then ran from deputies, but was shortly apprehended.
Deputies said his driver’s license was revoked in November 2023. They also found oxycodone pills and a firearm in the vehicle. Williams-Scott is not supposed to have a firearm or ammunition due to an injunction for protection against sexual violence, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement, resisting without violence, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, possession of a controlled substance, and violation of an injunction.
