JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 44-year-old man accused of shooting a man found dead in the garage of a Mandarin home was arrested Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at a home on Rustic Green Court, near Losco Road.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Stephen Shahly, was found dead inside the garage, police said.

“He was a good man, but even a better father,” Shahly’s brother-in-law told News4JAX. “He showed me how I could be a cornerstone if I need to, how many young men could be a cornerstone. That’s mainly the thing I want to say about him. He was a great person, but even a better father. He cared about his community.”

News4JAX also spoke to neighbors who said they were shocked to hear what happened.

“It’s a sad thing. Not the kind of thing that you hear back here,” a neighbor said.

Investigators identified Donald Rentfrow Jr. as the gunman and executed a search warrant at his home on Tuesday morning.

Rentfrow was taken into custody, and he was arrested after he was interviewed.

This shooting marked the 10th shooting across Jacksonville since Friday night, and the third in the last 24 hours.
