JSO said 5:54 a.m., a Chevrolet S-10 was headed east on Gold Star Family Parkway, and at the same time, a Chevrolet Silverado was headed west on the same road.
JSO said the Silverado made a left turn on southbound Pecan Park Road in front of the S-10, causing a collision.
The S10 driver, a 24-year-old man, was taken to a hospital where he died, JSO said.
The Silverado driver got out of his vehicle and attended to the victim for a moment, and then he fled the area on foot, police said. He is described as approximately 5′6″, medium build, with short black hair in his late 20s or early 30s.
The JSO K-9 and drone unit searched the area, but could not find the man. JSO said the Silverado isn’t stolen, and it’s registered out of the state.
Haraka Carswell lives nearby and said crashes aren’t common in that area, but with it being rural and mostly dark, drivers tend to move fast.
JSO said they didn’t perceive the man to be a threat to anyone else, but Carswell said it’s scary knowing that the driver ran off and could still be near her home.
“There’s a lot of woods behind us so [we] do not know if he is in the woods,” Carswell said. “It’s safe for everybody to lock [their] doors, keep [the] garage closed, just be on the lookout.”
