Jacksonville woman says cars have crashed into her home 3 times in the last 2 years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville woman said cars have crashed into her home three different times in the last two years.

For Jackie Curry, disbelief has become reality far too often.

“So this was previously a bedroom, but after the last incident, I had been using it for storage,” Curry said. “The last time it was Black Friday, and some of me and my family members were in the living room and a 32-year-old drunk driver came through this way, through this angle where the rocks are, and then clipped my office and took out this part in the entire front of my house. So I didn’t have access to my front door for about three months.”

She said she lost her home insurance after that crash.

On Saturday, her home took another hit.

“There was a teenage driver speeding down Braddock Road. He did not stop at the stop sign, he went airborne, touched down on my side of the street, and then when he tried to stop, he skidded all the way into my house,” Curry said. “And when I came outside, the car was in my foyer and in my house.”

The crash shattered walls, blew out a window and even damaged the foundation, she said.

“The portion of my house collapsed, so we’ve gotten a contractor to come out and tack that up so that this side of the house doesn’t fall down,” Curry said.

She said she worries not only about her home, but about drivers speeding through the intersection.

The FDOT said it plans to install a traffic signal at the intersection as part of a resurfacing project, but construction will not begin until late 2027.

“Even if you put a stoplight there, if you don’t respect the stoplight, you’re still going to hit my house and so I would much rather like to see a roundabout there, because that way it would slow down traffic on Dunn Avenue,” Curry said.
