‘I’m from Duval’: R&B singer Glenn Jones returns home to Jacksonville, celebrating birthday with concert on Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – R&B singer Glenn Jones is back home in Jacksonville, where he is putting on a concert on Friday for his birthday.

“To see all of my old friends, my schoolmates and all of that, my family, I’m just excited,” Jones said.

He is turning 63 years old on Saturday.

But, Friday night, he is celebrating by putting on a concert at the Ritz Theatre and Museum. It is a place he has never performed before, but vividly remembers from growing up nearby.

“Here I Go Again” is a song Jones saw reach the top of the Billboard R&B charts in the early ’90s.

On Sept. 26, 2025, he is back in his hometown for a special night of music.

“I just want them to have an understanding and record of who I was as a musician, songwriter, producer, and just as a homeboy,” Jones said. “I’m from Duval.”

Jones is making his debut at the Ritz Theatre and Museum.

“I remember growing up as a child on 19th Street between Myrtle Avenue and Moncrief,” he said. “I remember walking to the Ritz when it was a movie theater. I remember seeing ‘The Mack,’ ‘Super Fly’ and ‘Shaft,’ and all of those movies.”

Jones had several songs that claimed spots up and down the Billboard R&B charts, including “Show Me” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” (The Romance Is Not Over).

“I want [people] to hear the passion,” Jones said. “I want them to hear the sincerity, and I want them to hear the spirituality. Whether it is a love between a man and a woman, a mother and a child or spiritual love. The thing about real music, melodic music is it will always be here. People can say that R&B is dead. No it is not because that is the root of everything.”

Jones lives in Atlanta. He is also a Grammy-nominated producer, a music executive who formed his own record label called Talent Room Entertainment in 2018 and holds a pair of honorary doctorates.

Jones received one honorary doctorate degree from Harvest Christian University in 2023 and another from Trinity International University of Ambassadors School of Business in 2024.

But this one night in Jacksonville is another opportunity he won’t take for granted.

“It is just me reclaiming my hometown,” Jones said. “Reclaiming my place of birth where I came up, where I lived in my life until I got about 21 [years old] and left. Over the years, God has blessed me to do some great music. Some music that is timely, but timeless.”
