JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The City Rescue Mission is seeking assistance from the community to recover from the sudden storm on Tuesday that caused massive destruction to three of its transitional housing units.
The severe thunderstorm that passed through Jacksonville’s westside uprooted trees, collapsed ceilings, and left behind severe structural damage.
“This storm struck at the worst possible time,” Paul Stasi, CRM executive director, said.
All three Homes of Hope transitional units were found to be uninhabitable due to downed power lines and extensive water damage.
Seven uninjured residents who were getting their lives together are now displaced.
The residents were safely evacuated and provided temporary housing, but CRM still needs help to restore their homes so they can continue to rebuild their lives.
“While insurance may eventually offset some costs, coverage gaps and processing delays leave the Mission facing an urgent financial burden,” the news release stated.
Some immediate needs include tree removal, emergency roof replacement and structural repairs.
“We are deeply grateful that no one was physically harmed,” Stasi said. “But we cannot recover alone. We need the community to stand with us now so these homes—and the lives within them—can be made whole again.”
