Man shot in the stomach while standing in Jacksonville’s Urban Core, JSO says

Police add that man is in serious, but stable condition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot in the stomach while standing in Jacksonville’s Urban Core, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said the shooting occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Wilcox Street where a man in his mid-30s said he was standing near a burn barrel, heard several gunshots, and realized he was shot.

He was driven to a local hospital by a friend where he received treatment for his injuries, JSO said.

“The initial investigation revealed several spent shell casings were located in the 1400 block of Wilcox St. and is believed that is where the suspects were shooting from," JSO said. “. At this point it is still early in the investigation and RVCU Detectives are speaking with witnesses on the scene.”

The agency went on to say that the only suspect information they have is three “what appear to be younger males wearing hooded sweatshirts fleeing the area.”
