ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) shared details about the next phase of the First Coast Expressway during an open house meeting Tuesday night, a significant infrastructure project that will expand connectivity in Northern St. Johns County.

This phase begins at the eastern end of the future Shands Bridge, stretching from County Road 16A to St. Johns Parkway. The plan includes constructing a four-lane toll road, ultimately linking I-10 to I-95.

A new interchange will be built, allowing traffic to pass over St. Johns Parkway. FDOT has confirmed there will be no closures during morning rush hours when construction begins.

Additionally, there are no plans to construct noise walls for this segment.

The final portion of the expressway, which will connect St. Johns County to I-95, is scheduled to break ground in September.

Once completed, the expressway will provide a direct route for traffic to bypass Jacksonville, enhancing regional traffic flow and reducing congestion.
