Man dies after being shot multiple times while getting out of car in neighborhood near Oakleaf

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died after being shot multiple times outside a home in a neighborhood near Oakleaf, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Around 4:20 a.m. officers were called to Beekman Lake Drive in the Plum Tree development. There, they found a man in his early 20s had been shot multiple times while exiting his vehicle, heading towards a home on the street, JSO said.

The man was rushed to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

“I am concerned because this is a good neighborhood. It’s peaceful and quiet,” said one woman who lives nearby.

It’s the 32nd homicide in Duval County so far this year, according to our News4JAX records.

JSO Lt. J.D. Stronko said he doesn’t know if recent killings on this side of town are related, but JSO has been called to this side of town a lot lately.

“We track where crime happens. If we see a trend in an area, we try to link those and determine if there are any links between them,” he said.

Not far away, a man was found dead Saturday in a car at an apartment complex on Collins Road near Interstate 295, JSO said.

Within the last week, eight people have been shot and killed in Jacksonville. Three of them happened less than six miles apart from each other, including the shooting on Sunday.

That includes two on Collins Road, one of them was as recent as Saturday morning when a man was found dead in his car in this Kensley Apartments parking lot after being shot several times. And another last Sunday near 103rd Street when a teenager was killed.

No one has been arrested in any of these homicides at the time of this report and in a majority of them, there isn’t even a suspect description.

If you have any information about any of the cases, you’re asked to call JSO or CrimeStoppers.
