AAPI Month: Highlighting Blue Bamboo chef & owner Dennis Chan

As News4JAX celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re shining the spotlight on a local chef who brings his family legacy to Jacksonville.

Chef Dennis Chan is the owner of Blue Bamboo Canton Bistro -- a Chinese restaurant in Mandarin.

Chan grew up in the family business, watching his family operate a restaurant called Little Dragon on Main Street.

This passion sparked a journey that led to the creation of 13 family restaurants, each bringing a traditional Chinese twist to Jacksonville’s culinary scene.

Chef Dennis -- who started cooking as a child -- studied the art of cooking at the University of Florida and the Culinary Institute of America.

Since opening in 2005, Chef Dennis has delighted a loyal clientele with his bestselling cookbooks and community involvement, including volunteering for Caring Chefs, which benefits the Children’s Home Society.

At Blue Bamboo, you’ll find dishes that range from time-honored recipes to modern interpretations, all prepared with love and care.

The restaurant is located at 10110 San Jose Blvd. in Jacksonville and is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and for dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

They are also open on Saturdays from 5 to 9 p.m., but they’re closed on Sundays.
