Jacksonville driver killed in crash that blocked I-95 in St. Johns County for hours

One man died and one woman was injured. Both were from Jacksonville.

A deadly crash was reported on I-95 South in St. Johns County. (WJXT)

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 38-year-old Jacksonville man died and his 39-year-old passenger was injured Saturday afternoon in a rollover crash on Interstate 95 southbound just south of County Road 210 in St. Johns County.

Troopers said the driver was changing lanes near Mile Marker 328 about 4 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck and struck the median. According to the FHP report, he was ejected from the vehicle and died.

FHP also said a female passenger was taken to Baptist South Hospital with minor injuries. The report noted that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

For hours, the vehicle could be seen lying on its roof on the highway. blocking all southbound lanes. The scene was cleared and the interstate fully reopened about four hours after the crash.
