JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With 1,100 miles of navigable water, Jacksonville has more shoreline than any other city in the nation.
So it’s not surprising that we take our seafood seriously!
From fish fillets and crab legs to shrimp and chowder, Jacksonville residents know what we like and who makes it the best.
Our News4JAX Insiders picked Safe Harbor Seafood in Mayport as the top spot in the Jacksonville area for seafood in our JAXBest 2025 contest.
The family-owned restaurant beat out three other popular spots:
- Dockside Seafood Restaurant
- Hook’em Up Seafood and More
- Seafood Kitchen
But did you know the Safe Harbor restaurant is part of a larger brand that includes Safe Harbor Market and Sliders.
The market sits across from the restaurant, so we took a visit to see what sets it apart.
We learned how Mayport shrimp are processed fresh for the restaurant and other local stores, but also how they are specially frozen to maintain their fresh taste.
Check them out at 4378 Ocean St. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, but open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
